A solution to the GTS-based selective jamming attack on IEEE 802.15.4 networks

چکیده
The IEEE 802.15.4 standard allows devices to access the medium not only in contention mode but also in a contention-free way, in order to support quality of service (QoS). In contention-free mode, devices access the medium according to the guaranteed time slot (GTS) mechanism, which is vulnerable to the selective jamming attack. This is a particularly insidious form of denial of service that allows an attacker to thwart QoS while limiting her own exposure at the minimum. In this paper, we present selective jamming resistant GTS , a solution against the GTS-based selective jamming. We also show that our solution is standard compliant and affordable for resourcescarce devices like Tmote Sky motes.

متن کاملDemo Abstract: On preventing GTS-based Denial of Service in IEEE 802.15.4
The IEEE 802.15.4 standard features some optional services, including the Guaranteed Time Slot (GTS) mechanism. It provides network devices with collision-free access to the medium to assure Quality of Service. GTS suffers from a severe security vulnerability: an adversary can easily perform a Denial of Service attack by selectively jamming collision-free communications. We present Secure GTS, ...
متن کاملAn Energy Efficient Clustering Method using Bat Algorithm and Mobile Sink in Wireless Sensor Networks
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) consist of sensor nodes with limited energy. Energy efficiency is an important issue in WSNs as the sensor nodes are deployed in rugged and non-care areas and consume a lot of energy to send data to the central station or sink if they want to communicate directly with the sink. Recently, the IEEE 802.15.4 protocol is employed as a low-power, low-cost, and low rat...
متن کاملEnergy and delay trade-off of the GTS allocation mechanism in IEEE 802.15.4 for wireless sensor networks
The IEEE 802.15.4 protocol proposes a flexible communication solution for low-rate wireless personal area networks (LR-WPAN) including wireless sensor networks (WSNs). It presents the advantage to fit different requirements of potential applications by adequately setting its parameters. When in beaconenabled mode, the protocol can provide timeliness guarantees by using its Guaranteed Time Slot ...
متن کاملAdaptive GTS allocation in IEEE 802.15.4 for real-time wireless sensor networks
The IEEE 802.15.4 standard is able to achieve lowpower transmissions in low-rate and short-distance Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs). It supports a Guaranteed Time Slots (GTSs) allocation mechanism for time-critical and delay-sensitive data transmissions. However, the inflexible FirstCome-First-Served (FCFS) GTS allocation policy and passive deallocation mechanism significantly impair ne...
